Gryphon volleyball men again beaten by Brock
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons finished the 2021 portion of their OUA men’s volleyball season winless after they were handed a 3-1 setback by the Brock Badgers Sunday at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
It was the third loss to Brock this season as the Badgers had won 3-0 at Brock both Nov. 6 and Nov. 26.

The Gryphs also suffered losses to the McMaster Marauders (3-1 at home Nov. 12) and Windsor Lancers (3-1 at Windsor Nov. 20).
Sunday, Brock recorded a 23-25, 25-13, 25-19, 25-23 victory.
The Badgers led most of the statistical categories as they had 59 kills, eight aces, 57 assists and 33 digs. The Gryphs had 45 kills, three aces, 44 assists and 25 digs. Guelph did have seven blocks to Brock’s six.
The Gryphs closed out the win in the opening set, although the Badgers closed a three-point deficit (19-16) to a single point (24-23) before the hosts scored the winning point thanks to a Brock service error.
The Badgers had a seven-point run in the second set to take control early.
Brock scored seven of eight points late in the third set after the Gryphs had battled back from a four-point deficit (4-0) to pull into a 12-12 deadlock.
The Gryphs couldn’t grab a lead of more than two points in the fourth set while Brock put the match away by scoring five of the final six points.
Alexander Odle had 16 kills, an ace and four digs for the Gryphs while Jonathan Pickett had 11 kills, two blocks and five digs and Noah Romero-Marshall had seven kills, two aces and two digs. Gideon Dresser had 38 assists, three blocks and four digs, Ben Kissack had six digs and Arjun Selhi had five kills and two digs.
Logan House had 23 kills and five digs for Brock while Dean Globocki had 17 kills and five digs and Saulius Lianga had seven kills, two blocks and six digs. Mark Naqvi had three kills and three aces while Jacob Ferland had six kills, three blocks and three digs and Grant Reddon had three kills, 51 assists and five digs.
Next up for the Gryphs are home games against the Windsor Lancers Jan. 16 at 4 p.m. and Waterloo Warriors Jan. 22 at 3 p.m.
