Gryphon volleyball men also get back to .500

PETERBOROUGH – The Guelph Gryphons also got back to the .500 winning percentage mark as they put the brakes on their two-game OUA men’s volleyball losing skid by edging the winless Trent Excalibur 3-2 Sunday.

The Gryphs had to win the final two sets for the victory. They won 25-27, 25-11, 16-25, 25-16, 15-8.

Oliver Hissink had 13 kills, five aces, three digs and a block for the Gryphs while Jakson Paterson had eight kills, two aces, four digs and three blocks and Matt Baxter had nine kills, an assist, an ace, seven digs and a block.

Jacob Bothen had 16 kills, an assist, eight digs and a block for Trent and Matthew Bergin had 12 kills, three digs and four blocks and Emmanuel Danso-Amofa had eight kills and two blocks.

The result leaves the Gryphs fourth in the West Division at 4-4 while Trent is seventh in the East Division at 0-10.

The match was the fourth consecutive road game in league play for the Gryphs and they went 2-2 during that stretch.

Like the Gryphon women, the Gryphon men also get four consecutive matches at home at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre starting with 8 p.m. matches Friday against the Queen’s Gaels (7-2) and Saturday against the RMC Paladins (1-8).
