Gryphon volleyball men also swept by Toronto

TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons were swept by the Toronto Varsity Blues Friday night at Toronto’s Goldring Centre for their fourth consecutive loss in OUA men’s volleyball play and third straight time they’ve been swept.

The Varsity Blues won 25-15, 25-20, 25-16.

The Gryphs had more errors (21) than kills (20) in the match and that left them with a negative kill percentage (-.013). The Varsity Blues had a kill percentage of .326.

Guelph had 20 kills, an ace, three blocks, 19 assists and 33 digs while Toronto had 39 kills, two aces, seven blocks, 35 assists and 34 digs.

Braeden Sears had six kills and four digs for the Gryphs while Nicolas Gumienik had three kills and a block and William Rocheleau had three kills, a block, an assist and six digs. Joshua Glasbergen had the ace and two blocks while Jack Richards had 10 assists, Andrew Song had seven assists and Daniel Pickett had 11 digs.

Jayden Talsma had 14 kills for Toronto while Davis Young had three blocks and 35 assists and Hayden Cavender had three blocks and an ace. Mitchell Neuert had 12 digs and the other ace.

The loss leaves the Gryphs at 8-8 while Toronto improves to 11-5.

The Gryphs are to host the York Lions (11-5) at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre Saturday at 3 p.m.
