Gryphon volleyball men back on court with win

GUELPH – Maybe the lengthy break was good for the Guelph Gryphons as they returned to OUA men’s volleyball league play with a 3-0 victory over the Waterloo Warriors Thursday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre.

The win in Guelph’s first match since Nov. 28 was their first victory of the season.

The Gryphs won 25-23, 25-17, 25-20.

The hosts had six aces in the match, five more than Waterloo. The locals also had 30 kills, four blocks, 26 assists and 23 digs while Waterloo had 29 kills, five blocks, 25 assists and 18 digs.

Jonathan Pickett had 11 kills for the Gryphs while Alexander Odle and Joshua Glasbergen each had two aces and Odle had two blocks. Gideon Dresser had 24 assists and Ben Kissack had nine digs.

For Waterloo, Liam MacArthur had eight kills, Colm Guyn had the ace and 24 assists, Nolan Spencer had three blocks and Bennett Newell had five digs.

The Gryphs had lost all five of their league matches in the 2021 portion of the schedule.

The Gryphs and Waterloo are to meet again Saturday. Game time at Waterloo’s PAC Gym is 3 p.m.
