Gryphon volleyball men post another sweeping victory
LONDON – The Guelph Gryphons swept another OUA men’s volleyball league opponent aside Wednesday night when they defeated the Western Mustangs 3-0 at Western’s Alumni Hall.
The Gryphs downed the Mustangs 25-21, 25-23, 25-22 for their third sweep in as many league outings as they had earlier beaten the Waterloo Warriors and Trent Excalibur 3-0 on successive days.
Guelph leads the West Division at 3-0, but before the Gryphs get big-headed they know their opponents in their three wins are a combined 0-5 this season.
The Gryphs had 44 kills (eight more than Western), two aces (one fewer), 33 digs (two fewer) and 10 blocks (two more).
Jonathan Pickett had 11 kills, an ace, two digs and three blocks for the Gryphs while Oliver Hissink had a game-high 14 kills and five digs and Zarko Ubiparip had 10 kills, five digs and two blocks. Gideon Dresser had 34 assists and four digs while Ben Kissack had an assist and 15 digs.
Jackson Bere had nine kills, an ace, two digs and four blocks for Western while Brady Fidler had 11 kills, an assist and seven digs.
The Gryphs are to play the Windsor Lancers at St. Denis Centre in Windsor Saturday. Game time is 8 p.m.
