Gryphon volleyball men slip by Windsor Lancers

WINDSOR – The Guelph Gryphons remained unbeaten early in the OUA men’s volleyball season as they edged the Windsor Lancers 3-2 Saturday night at Windsor’s St. Denis Centre.

The Gryphs won 17-25, 25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 15-12.

The hosts finished the match with 51 kills, four aces, 51 digs, three solo blocks and 18 assisted blocks.

By comparison, Windsor had 44 kills, five aces, 37 digs and 15 assisted blocks.

Zarko Ubiparip had 15 kills for the Gryphs while Matthew Baxter had 14. Arjun Selhi served up two aces while Gideon Dresser and Ben Kissack each had 13 digs and Baxter had 10. Jakson Paterson was in on eight blocks and Baxter was in on eight. Dresser had 35 assists.

Brad Gyemi had 13 kills and Pierce Johnson had 12 for Windsor. Johnson also had two aces and four blocks while Gyemi had 10 digs and Dami Alalade had four blocks. Nolan Langley had 38 assists.

The Gryphs have won all four matches they’ve played this season while Windsor dropped to 2-2.

The Gryphs are to host the Ryerson Rams (2-1) Friday at 8 p.m. at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
