Gryphon volleyball men sweep another opponent aside
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons downed the Trent Excalibur 3-0 Sunday for their second consecutive OUA men’s volleyball league win at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
The win was Guelph’s second consecutive sweep, too.
The Gryphs beat Trent 25-17, 25-16, 25-21 the day after they swept the Waterloo Warriors.
Sunday’s match was Trent’s season opener.
The match belonged to the Gryphs as they had 49 kills to Trent’s 19 and 10 service aces to one for the Excalibur.
Jonathan Pickett led the Gryphs with 10 kills, an assist, three digs and a block while Jakson Paterson had nine kills, an assist, an ace and a dig and Zarko Ubiparip had nine kills, an ace and three digs. Matthew Baxter collected five kills, an assist, four aces and three digs while Noah Romero-Marshall had two kills, an ace and two blocks, Aidan Hayter had a kill, 11 assists and a dig and Gideon Dresser had 20 assists and four digs.
Emmanuel Danso-Amofa had five kills and four blocks for Trent while Nicholas Taylor had five kills and six digs and Matthew Bergin had four kills, five digs and a block.
The Gryphs (2-0) are to play the Western Mustangs (0-2) at Western’s Alumni Hall Wednesday at 8 p.m.
