Gryphon volleyball men swept aside by Queen’s Gaels
KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons were swept for the second time in OUA men’s volleyball league play this season as they were defeated 3-0 by the Queen’s Gaels Saturday night at the Queen’s Athletic Recreation Centre’s main gym.
Queen’s defeated the Gryphs 27-25, 25-19, 25-16.
The other three-set loss by the Gryphs this season was a 3-0 loss to the Brock Badgers at St. Catharines Nov. 23.
Guelph had a .057 kill percentage in Saturday’s game with 24 kills, 23 assists, one ace, 23 digs and six blocks while Queen’s had a .347 kill percentage with 37 kills, 35 assists, five aces, 22 digs and seven and a half blocks.
Jonathan Pickett had 10 kills for the Gryphs while Gideon Dresser had 20 assists, the ace and five digs and Jakson Paterson had two and a half blocks.
Erik Siksna had 10 kills and two aces for Queen’s while Zane Grossinger had 31 assists and five digs, Adam Boljkovac had two aces and five digs. Dax Tompkins had three blocks.
Top four in each division qualify for the playoffs and both the Gryphs and Gaels had clinched a playoff spot prior to the game. The Gryphs used 12 players in the match while Queen’s used eight.
McMaster Marauders lead the West Division at 14-1 and are followed by the Gryphs at 10-6, Windsor Lancers at 8-7, Western Mustangs at 7-8, Brock at 6-9 and Waterloo Warriors at 4-11. McMaster and Guelph have clinched playoff berths while Waterloo’s out of contention.
The Gryphs are to wrap up their regular season Saturday with a game at Waterloo’s Physical Activities Complex against Waterloo. Game time is 8 p.m.
