
Gryphon volleyball men swept by McMaster Marauders
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons continued to struggle against the McMaster Marauders as they were swept 3-0 in OUA men’s volleyball play Sunday at the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre.
It was the 14th consecutive loss to McMaster. Last time the Gryphs defeated McMaster was more than a decade ago – Feb. 5, 2011, when they won 3-1 in league play in the West Gym of the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre.

Sunday, the Marauders won 25-18, 25-14, 25-15.
McMaster had a .375 kill percentage while the Gryphs were at .085.
The Marauders also dominated the stats as they had 35 kills, six aces, seven blocks, 34 assists and 32 digs. The Gryphs had 21 kills, two aces, three blocks, 21 assists and 14 digs.
Jonathan Pickett had 11 kills, an ace and four digs for the Gryphs while Joshua Glasbergen had three kills and a block. Liam Kinahan also had an ace while Jack Richards had eight assists and a block while Gideon Dresser had 12 assists and Jacob Schweyer had three digs and an assist.
Mateusz Wlodarski had nine kills, an ace and three blocks for McMaster while Max Gratton had nine kills and two aces and Sam Cooper had eight kills, two aces, an assist and four digs. Tyler Pavelic had four blocks while Robbie Fujisawa had 32 assists and 10 digs and Jordan Pereira had seven digs.
The Gryphs have lost four consecutive matches, two to McMaster and two to the Western Mustangs. They’re sixth in the six-team West Division at 2-9. McMaster leads at 11-0 while the Brock Badgers are second at 6-3, Western third at 4-4 and Windsor Lancers (3-5) and Waterloo Warriors (3-8) are tied for fourth. Top five qualify for the playoffs.
The Gryphs have two games to go on their regular season and both are home games and will decide their playoff fate as they’re to play Western Thursday at 8 p.m. and Windsor Sunday at 3 p.m.
