Gryphon volleyball women capture bronze-medal finish
TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons claimed the bronze medals at the OUA women’s volleyball championship tournament at the University of Toronto’s Goldring Centre.
The Gryphs downed the Western Mustangs 3-1 in the bronze-medal match Saturday, winning 25-14, 24-26, 25-22, 25-17.
The Gryphs had a .127 kill percentage as they limited their attack errors to 17. They also had 33 assists, four aces, 94 digs and eight blocks. Western had a .073 kill percentage as they had 26 attack errors, 39 kills, 37 assists, five aces, 115 digs and three blocks.
Jade Ziebarth had 12 kills for the Gryphs while Alexandra Curran had 27 assists and 22 digs. Tara Tanasijevic had 27 digs and Cassidy Collins had three blocks.
Kristina Curcin had 10 kills for Western while Jessica Lam had 31 assists and 22 digs. Rachel Grove also had 22 digs and Kate Van Camp had 17.
It was the first medal win for the Gryphs since they won silver in 2011.
