Gryphon volleyball women leave Trent behind
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons picked up their second OUA women’s volleyball league win at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre in as many days as they swept the Trent Excalibur 3-0 Sunday.
The Gryphs won 25-12, 25-12, 25-14.
The hosts dominated the match, getting 36 kills to 15 for Trent, seven blocks to three for Trent and all nine service aces in the game.
Alexandra Proulx had two aces, a block, seven digs and eight kills for the Gryphs while Alexandra Meshcherekova had four blocks, three digs and five kills. Jessica Chung had an ace, two digs and six kills and Noa Pijl had a block and six kills, Lisa Wedel had two aces, two digs and four kills, Alexandra Curran had two aces, 26 assists, four digs and two kills and Tara Tanasijevic had an assist and 10 digs.
Jill Barr had four kills and two digs for Trent while Aimee Hatton had two kills, a dig and two blocks. Victoria Pancucci collected three kills and seven digs, Genna Saunders had three kills and six digs and Heidi Hayes had a kills, 12 assists and three digs.
Guelph’s two wins came on the opening weekend of league play. Trent falls to 1-1.
The Gryphs are to play the Western Mustangs (1-1) at Western’s Alumni Hall Wednesday at 6 p.m.
