Gryphon volleyball women sweep another match in Kingston
KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons moved closer to clinching a playoff berth in the OUA women’s volleyball league with their second sweep in as many games.
The Gryphs defeated the Queen’s Gaels 3-0 Saturday night at the Athletic Recreation Centre’s main gym on the Queen’s campus.
Guelph had swept the RMC Paladins 3-0 Friday at RMC.
The Gryphs defeated the Gaels 25-17, 25-21, 25-22.
Guelph had a .317 kill percentage in the game with 40 kills, 35 assists, four aces, 46 digs and 10 blocks. Queen’s had a .143 kill percentage with 41 kills, 39 assists, six aces, 55 digs and one block.
Jade Ziebarth had nine kills while Alexandra Curran had 28 assists and two aces. Tara Tanasijevic had 11 digs and Cassidy Collins had four blocks.
Julia Wiercigroch had 15 kills and 16 digs for Queen’s while Lauryn Colpitts had 30 assists and Arielle Palermo had three aces.
Brock Badgers lead the West Division at 13-3 while the Western Mustangs and Waterloo Warriors are both at 11-6 and the Gryphs are at 11-7. They’re followed by the Windsor Lancers at 9-8 while the McMaster Marauders are at 8-9 and the Lakehead Thunderwolves are at 2-16.
Top four in the division qualify for the playoffs. Brock has three games to go on its regular season while Western, Waterloo, Windsor and McMaster have two apiece and the Gryphs and Lakehead each have one. McMaster and Lakehead are out of the playoff race.
The Gryphs are to complete their regular season Saturday with a game against the Warriors at Waterloo’s Physical Activities Complex. Game time is 6 p.m.
