Gryphon volleyball women sweep by Lakehead

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons swept the Lakehead Thunderwolves aside Friday with a 3-0 win in OUA women’s volleyball play at their West Gym.

The Gryphs won 25-11, 25-19, 25-18.

The locals had a .232 kill percentage with 34 kills. They also had nine aces and nine blocks. By comparison, Lakehead had a .033 kill percentage, 20 kills, three aces and three blocks.

Jessica Chungs had 10 kills for the Gryphs while Lisa Wedel had nine. Alexandra Curran had 26 assists, four aces and 10 digs while Ella MacKenzie had three aces and Jade Ziebarth also had 10 digs.

Meghan Routier had nine kills for Lakehead while Lauren Follet had 13 assists. Rachel Sweezey served up three aces while Rebekah Hara had 15 digs.

The Gryphs improve to 7-6 with the win while Lakehead falls to 1-14 and are the only squad in the West Division with a record under a .500 winning percentage.

The Gryphs have six games remaining in their regular season. They’re to host Lakehead again Saturday in the West Gym. Game time is 1 p.m.
