Gryphon volleyball women sweep by RMC

GUELPH – The RMC Paladins were just what the Guelph Gryphons needed to get back to the .500 winning percentage mark in OUA women’s volleyball.

The Gryphs pulled their record up to 6-6 with a 3-0 sweep of RMC as they defeated the Paladins 25-19, 25-12, 25-21 Saturday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The hosts had a .254 kill percentage with 51 kills while RMC was at .093 with 28 kills. The Gryphs also had 10 blocks to one for RMC.

Michaela Hellinga had 15 kills, four digs and a block for the Gryphs while Cassidy Collins had 10 kills and four blocks and Lisa Wedel had 10 kills, two digs and three blocks.

Kara Stephan had nine kills, two aces and 11 digs for RMC.

With the win the Gryphs join the McMaster Marauders and Western Mustangs at the six-win level in the West Division. However, McMaster has two games in hand and Western has one.

RMC trails in the East Division at 0-11.

Next up for the Gryphs is a 1 p.m. game at the GGAC against the Nipissing Lakers (3-6) Saturday.
