Gryphon volleyball women sweep Lakehead again
GUELPH – For the second consecutive day the Guelph Gryphons swept the Lakehead Thunderwolves in OUA women’s volleyball play Saturday at the University of Guelph’s West Gym.
In a match that took 65 minutes, the Gryphs won 25-11, 25-17, 25-7.
While the Gryphs had a .279 kill percentage, Lakehead was in the hole with more errors than kills. The Gryphs also had nine kills to one for Lakehead and 13 blocks to two.
Cassidy Collins had eight kills for the Gryphs while Alexandra Curran had 31 assists. Jessica Chung, Curran, Alexandra Meshcherekova and Alexandra Proulx each had two aces while Jade Ziebarth had 11 digs and Proulx had three blocks.
Megan Nahachewsky had six kills and nine digs for Lakehead while Lauren Follet had seven assists. Meghan Routier had Lakehead’s ace and a block.
The win leaves the Gryphs at 8-6 while Lakehead falls to 1-15. Guelph is one of three teams with eight wins in the West Division as the Windsor Lancers are also at 8-6 and the McMaster Marauders are at 8-7. Brock Badgers lead the division at 10-3 while the Western Mustangs are at 10-5 and the Waterloo Warriors are at 9-4.
Top four in the division qualify for the playoffs.
The Gryphs have five games to go in their regular season and all but one are on the road. They’re to play the Marauders at McMaster’s Burridge Gymnasium Friday at 6 p.m.
