Gryphon volleyball women sweep RMC Paladins
KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons swept the RMC Paladins Friday to move into a tie for third in the OUA women’s volleyball league’s West Division.
The Gryphs had a relatively easy time with RMC as they won 25-8, 25-19, 25-7.
The Gryphs, in a race for a playoff spot in the tight West Division, used eight players in the match.
Jaymie Stephenson had nine kills while Alexandra Curran had 18 assists, Tara Tanasijevic had 13 digs and Lisa Wedel had four blocks.
Teigan Rook had five kills for RMC while Jazlyn Sturrock had 14 assists, Lauryne Mvuezolo had two aces and Maiyah Russell had 18 digs. The Paladins didn’t have a dig.
The Gryphs had a .245 kill percentage, 31 kills, 19 assists, three aces and six blocks. RMC had a .045 kill percentage, 20 kills, 20 assists, four aces and no blocks.
Brock Badgers lead the West Division at 13-3 and are followed by the Western Mustangs (11-6), Waterloo Warriors (10-6), Gryphs (10-7), Windsor Lancers (9-8), McMaster Marauders (8-9) and Lakehead Thunderwolves (2-16).
Brock and Waterloo have three games to play, Lakehead has one and all the others in the division have two apiece.
The Gryphs are to play the Queen’s Gaels (11-6) at Kingston Saturday at 6 p.m. and the Warriors at Waterloo a week later to complete the regular season.
