Gryphon volleyball women swept by York

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons were swept 3-0 by the York Lions in OUA women’s volleyball play Saturday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.

The Lions won 25-20, 25-15, 25-20.

The Lions had a .205 kill percentage in the match while the Gryphs were at .050.

York won most of the categories as they had 38 kills to 29 for the Gryphs, seven aces to four for Guelph, seven block to two for the Gryphs and 35 assists to 28 for Guelph. The Gryphs did have 52 digs, three more than York.

Sophie Fernback had 11 kills for the Gryphs while Samantha Ingleton had seven kills and Sophie Kalbfleisch had five kills and an ace. Alex Shields had two aces, 11 assists and seven digs and Ella Mackenzie had an ace, Sarah McNames had both blocks and eight digs, Ella Carter had 15 assists and Mackenzie Proulx had two assists and 11 digs.

Olivia Kim had 16 kills for York while Amarai Endes had four blocks, Chiara Da Silva had two aces and 31 assists, Jessica Reynolds had two aces and 16 digs and Madison Shanks had two aces.

The result leaves the Gryphs at 3-5 and York at 4-4.

The Gryphs are to finish the 2022 segment of their schedule with a pair of matches against the Toronto Metropolitan Bold at TMU’s Mattamy Athletic Centre. Game times Friday and Saturday are 6 p.m. both days.
