Gryphon volleyball women top Trent to stop skid

PETERBOROUGH – The Guelph Gryphons got back to the .500 winning percentage mark as they put the brakes on their three-game OUA women’s volleyball losing skid by sweeping the Trent Excalibur 3-0 Sunday.

The Gryphs won 27-25, 25-19, 25-6.

Noa Pijil had 11 kills, two aces, five digs and five blocks for the Gryphs while Michaela Hellinga had nine kills, an ace, six digs and a block and Lisa Wedel collected six kills, two digs and five blocks.

Heidi Hayes led Trent with 21 kills, 24 assists, an ace, six digs and a block and Camile Garzon gathered seven kills, two aces and eight digs.

The result leaves the Gryphs fifth in the West Division at 5-5 while Trent is sixth in the East Division at 1-10.

The match was also the sixth consecutive road game in league play for the Gryphs. They went 3-3 during that stretch.

The Gryphs now get four consecutive matches at home at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre starting with 6 p.m. matches Friday against the Queen’s Gaels (5-4) and Saturday against the RMC Paladins (0-9).
