
Gryphon volleyball women topped by Toronto
TORONTO – Errors proved costly for the Guelph Gryphons as they were handed a 3-1 setback by the Toronto Varsity Blues in OUA women’s volleyball play at Toronto’s Goldring High Performance Centre Saturday.
While both teams committed 31 errors in the match, the Gryphs managed 24 kills to give them a minus kill percentage. Toronto had 49 kills for a .114 kill percentage.

Toronto won 25-10, 22-25, 25-19, 25-13.
The Gryphs had two aces, 13 blocks, 24 assists and 67 digs while the Varsity Blues had seven aces, 10 blocks, 49 assists and 81 digs.
Hailey Holland had six kills and three blocks for the Gryphs while Briar Crerar had five kills and 12 digs. Samantha Ingleton had five kills and seven blocks while Mackenzie Scott served up the two aces. Maya Morabito had four blocks while Ella Carter had 16 assists and 14 digs. Alexa Shields had four assists and Mackenzie Proulx had 13 digs.
Julia Murmann had 19 kills and two aces for Toronto while Elizabeth Bilawey had five blocks and two aces, Jasmine Safar had 34 assists and Natalia Souza had 28 digs.
The loss was the sixth in a row for the Gryphs. That includes a 3-2 loss to the Waterloo Warriors at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre Friday night. Waterloo won 25-17, 25-23, 24-26, 23-25, 15-8.
The Gryphs had a .136 kill percentage with 54 kills and 30 errors while Waterloo had a .241 kill percentage with 67 kills and 22 errors.
Guelph had eight aces, 11 blocks, 47 assists and 83 digs while the Warriors had 11 aces, 11 blocks, 64 assists and 86 digs.
Ingleton had 13 kills and four blocks for the Gryphs while Morabito had 12 kills and three blocks and Crerar had nine kills, an ace and 16 digs. Jaymie Stephenson had two aces, three blocks and 10 digs while Ella Carter had an ace and 17 assists. Shields had 29 assists and Proulx had 11 digs and an assist.
Sarah Glynn had 23 kills for Waterloo while Claire Gagne had three aces and 54 assists, Grace Crooks had four blocks and Avery Kelly had 22 digs.
The results leave the Gryphs at 3-9.
Brock Badgers lead at 10-0 and Western are second at 10-1 and Waterloo third at 9-2. McMaster Marauders are at 8-2, Windsor Lancers and TMU Bold are both at 7-4, Queen’s Gaels are at 6-4, York Lions are at 6-5, Nipissing Lakers and Toronto are both at 3-7, Lakehead Thunderwolves are at 2-10, Trent Excalibur are at 0-9 and RMC Paladins are at 0-10.
The Gryphs are off from league play until a pair of matches against the Lancers at Windsor Jan. 27 and 28.
