
Gryphon volleyball women topped by Waterloo
WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons continue to look for their first victory of the 2021-2022 OUA women’s volleyball season after they dropped a close one to the Waterloo Warriors Saturday at Waterloo’s PAC gym.
The Gryphs won the first set 25-20, but then dropped three in a row (27-25, 25-20, 26-24) to be handed a 3-1 setback.

Guelph had a .116 kill percentage in the match while Waterloo was at .197.
The Gryphs also had 43 kills, five aces, 10 blocks, 42 assists and 78 digs while Waterloo had 53 kills, eight aces, 11 blocks, 50 assists and 75 digs.
Alex Curran had 35 assists, 12 digs and three blocks for the Gryphs while Jessica Chung had 17 digs, two aces and two assists. Ashley Vang had 22 digs and two assists, Jaymie Stephenson had 10 kills and two aces, Lisa Wedel had 10 kills and five blocks, Sophie Fernback had 14 kills and three blocks and Sasha Meshcherekova had an ace.
Sarah Glynn led Waterloo with 15 digs, eight kills, five blocks, four aces and an assist while Mackenize Vallee had 12 kills, 10 digs and an ace. Katrine Eistrat had 45 assists and an ace and Jenna Gravina had 28 digs, Karen Fan 11 kills, Grace Crooks five blocks, Serena Otshudi three blocks and Alex Sinik two assists.
The Gryphs have a three-in-three with the also winless Lakehead Thunderwolves at Lakehead’s C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse next weekend. They’re to play at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 1 p.m. Sunday.
