
Gryphon volleyball women topped in five sets
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons suffered a five-set loss to the Waterloo Warriors as their two-match winning streak in OUA women’s volleyball play came to an end Friday night at the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre.
The loss came a weekend after a pair of sweeps of the Trent Excalibur in Peterborough.

The Gryphs took the first set 25-19 before the Warriors came back with 25-20 and 25-15 victories. A 25-22 win for the Gryphs took the match to its five-set limit and Waterloo took that deciding set 15-9.
Guelph had 65 digs to 62 for Waterloo, the only category the Gryphs won. Waterloo won the others, 61-54 in kills, 7-6 in aces, 11-5 in blocks and 53-44 in assists.
Sophie Fernback had 14 kills, 13 digs and a block for the hosts while Samantha Ingleton had 13 kills and a block and Sophie Kalbfleisch had nine kills and two aces. Jaymie Stephenson had two aces while Ella Carter had an ace, 24 assists and 11 digs and Alexa Shields had 17 assists. Mackenzie Proulx had two assists and nine digs and Sarah McNames and Maya Morabito each had a block.
Sarah Glynn had 28 kills and two aces for Waterloo while Lauren Hebert had four blocks, Claire Gagne had 49 assists and Alex Sinik had 18 digs.
The Gryphs fall to 3-5 with the loss while Waterloo improves to 7-1.
The Gryphs are to host the York Lions (3-4) Saturday at the GGAC. Game time is 6 p.m.
