Guelph Gryphons place fourth in national tournament
OTTAWA – The Guelph Gryphons finished the U Sports women’s rugby national championship tournament in fourth place following a 33-17 loss to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on the University of Ottawa’s Matt Anthony Field Sunday.
The Gee-Gees jumped ahead early in the bronze-medal game and had three tries before Talia Hoffman broke through for a try for the Gryphons on the final play of the opening half.
Michaela Haley, Meredith Sirrs and Madison Grant each had a try for Ottawa.
The Gryphs closed the gap to five points when Brodie Schmidt collected a try at the beginning of the second half.
However, Alexandra Ondo secured the win for the Gee-Gees with a pair of tries later in the half.
Scorers of the kicking points were not reported.
The Laval Rouge et Or captured their very first national women’s rugby title with a 22-14 victory over the Queen’s Gaels in the gold-medal match.
