Gryphons hit in second half to slip by Laurier

GUELPH – Parmprett Johal’s goal in the second half lifted the fifth-ranked Guelph Gryphons to a 3-2 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks in OUA men’s soccer play Friday night at the Gryphons Soccer Complex.

The teams traded goals throughout the game, although the hosts never trailed.

Damian Truong scored both Guelph goals in the first half and he also assisted on the game winner. His first goal came in the 19th minute while his second was in the 37th minute, about a minute after Laurier had scored their first goal.

Josh du Toit scored that goal for Laurier while Greyson Silva-Addo collected the second one, assisted by Micah Chisholm, in first half stoppage time.

The game was a fairly even one with both teams taking five shots.

Laurier took all three corner kicks in the game and the visitors also took 8 of the 12 fouls committed in the game.

The result leaves the Gryphs tied with the Brock Badgers for second in the West Division, both at 3-0-1. York Lions lead at 4-0-0. Laurier and Windsor Lancers are tied for eighth at 0-5-0.

The Gryphs and Laurier are to meet again Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at Laurier.
