
Gryphons in bronze-medal game in OUA baseball
KITCHENER – The Guelph Gryphons are to play for bronze Saturday at the OUA baseball championship tournament at Kitchener’s Jack Couch Park.
The Gryphs were edged 1-0 by the Queen’s Gaels in semifinal play Friday afternoon, the Gaels scoring an unearned run.
Peter Zytner was tagged with the loss for the Gryphs despite holding Queen’s to the single run on seven hits in eight innings. He had five strikeouts.
Queen’s pitcher Jordan Leishman went the distance for the shutout victory.
The Gryphs are to play the Waterloo Warriors in the bronze-medal game Saturday at 10 a.m. at Jack Couch Park.
Waterloo was dropped 7-2 by the defending champion Toronto Varsity Blues in Friday’s other semifinal.
Queen’s and Toronto are to battle in the gold-medal match Saturday at 2 p.m.
