Gryphons OSL men downed by Club Italia Juventus

MISSISSAUGA – The Guelph Gryphons continue to look for their first victory of the season in Ontario Soccer League Provincial West play following a 4-0 loss to Club Italia Juventus at Brickyard Park Sunday.

The loss was the third in as many league outings for the Gryphons.

Aaron Vanvelzen, Drew Gowan, Keith Makubuya and Michael Pavela scored a goal apiece for Italia.

The win leaves Italia at 1-1-1.

The Gryphons are to host Burlington Clash City (0-2-0) Thursday at 8:45 p.m. at Eastview Park.


Ontario Women’s League

Provincial Elite

The Guelph Gryphons remained undefeated with a 2-0 win over the Richmond Hill Raiders Friday night at Downsview Park.

Haley Howes and Nicole Brown-Shaw scored a goal apiece for the locals.

The Gryphs lead the league at 3-0-2, but have played more games than any other team in the league. They’re a point ahead of GS United (3-0-1) while Richmond Hill is at 0-3-1.

The Gryphs and Richmond Hill are to play again Tuesday at the Gryphon Soccer Complex. Game time is 9 p.m.


Kitchener and District League

Men’s Division

Guelph Galaxy was edged 2-1 by Banat Sunday at the Centennial Bowl.

Andrew Forbes scored the goal for Galaxy while Banat received goals from Alexander Radic and Haris Fazalgic.

Galaxy has lost all five of its league outings while Banat is at 3-3-0.

Next outings for Galaxy is a match against the Guelph Gryphons (0-4-0) June 21 at Guelph Lake Sports Fields. Game time is 8:45 p.m.


Women’s Division

Guelph Gryphons Black were handed a 5-0 setback by Banat Sunday at Kitchener.

Catherine Vanderburgh, Jennifer Rowe, Krystal-Lee Sousa, Nazli Sokmez and Tammy Scurr scored the goals for Banat.

Gryphs Black falls to 0-2-0 in league play while Banat improves to 1-1-0.

Gryphs Black are to play Gryphs Red (0-0-1) Wednesday at 9 p.m. at Marden Park.
