Gryphons post pair of thirds in team portion of own tournament

GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons claimed a pair of third-place finishes in the team events at their own Guelph Gryphons Invitational golf tournament Monday at the Cutten Fields golf club.

The Gryphs were third in the men’s team event at 300, three strokes behind the winning McMaster Marauders and two behind the runner-up Western Mustangs.

Nolan Von Kalckreuth of the Brock Badgers and Morgan Burjaw of McMaster tied for first in the individual competition with rounds of 71. Patrick Carlton of Western and Kobe Smith of the Gryphs were tied for third at 72 and Owen Dorssers of Guelph was fifth at 73.

Other Gryphons in the tournament were Justin Allen, Jack Ferguson, Taylor Cosburn, Matthew Vihant, Evan Lesyk and Xavier Ayora.

The Gryphs were third in the women’s team standings at 294. Waterloo Warriors were the runaway winners at 252 while McMaster was second at 289.

Waterloo golfers finished one-two in the individual women’s competition with Olivia Richards first at 78 and Laura Wesselius second at 80. Jamie Oleksiew of the Windsor Lancers was third at 82.

Gryphons in the tournament were Rachel Bauer, Kate McTaggart, Hailey Boyd and Michelle Beltran.

The two-day OUA championship tournament is to be played at the Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham starting Monday.
