Natalie Vigna led the Gryphs with 19 points while MacKelly Shantz and Lucy Tesseyman had 11 apiece and Renee Armstrong had 10.

Shantz hauled down 12 rebounds and had six assists and four steals while Tesseyman, Armstrong and Julia Colavecchia each had a block.

Ariane Saumure had a game-high 21 points for Western while Sarah Harvey and Brett Fischer each had 13 and Emily Capretta had 11. Saumure had 10 rebounds and three steals while Fischer and Samantha Cowan each had three assists and Harvey and Morgan Tamminga each had two blocks.

Guelph shot 34 percent on field goals, 27 percent on three-pointers and 75 percent on free throws and also had 34 points in the paint, 22 off turnovers, 14 on second chances and 18 from their bench.

Western shot 31 percent on field goals, 36 percent on three-pointers and 67 percent on free throws and also had 22 points in the paint, 13 off turnovers, eight on second chances and three from their bench.

The Gryphs will finish second in the West Division. With one game to go, Guelph is at 15-6 while the Waterloo Warriors are first in the division at 17-4 and the Windsor Spitfires are third at 12-9.

Guelph could finish tied with the McMaster Marauders or the Toronto Metropolitan Bold in the final overall standings. If the Marauders and Bold finish tied atop the Central Division standings, TMU will get first.

The first-place finishers in each division will finish in the top three places in the overall standings while the team with the best record of all the other teams will finish fourth overall. Top four get byes in the first round of the playoffs while the next four will host first-round matches.

The Gryphs will be one of the four who host first-round playoff matches and it’s quite possible they’ll host the Windsor Lancers who are third in the West Division at 12-9.

Guelph and Windsor are to face each other to complete their regular seasons Saturday at Windsor at 4 p.m. It’ll be their second meeting in eight days as the Lancers defeated the Gryphs 75-56 at the GGAC last Saturday.

The Gryphs are to host the first-round playoff match Wednesday. Game time is expected to be 7 p.m.
