Guelph Redcoats finish atop NRU Men A1 loop

GUELPH – The Guelph Redcoats secured top spot in the Niagara Rugby Union’s Men A1 League Saturday at Exhibition Park.

The Redcoats got off to a quick start and held a commanding lead at halftime, but had to hold off a second-half charge by the Niagara Wasps for a 44-31 win in the final game of the league’s regular season.

The contest was a make-up match from a match postponed by poor field conditions in May.

The Redcoats struck for seven tries in the match while Niagara had five and four of them came in the second half.

Guelph finishes in first place at 9-1-0 and 46 points while Niagara and Sarnia finish with 7-3-0 records and 37 points apiece when bonus points are added in.

The league’s NRU Men’s Cup is to go Saturday at London St. George.

 

NRU Men A2

Niagara Wasps secured first place in the league as they walloped the Guelph Redcoats Saturday at Exhibition Park.

Niagara struck for a 73-7 victory as the Wasps scored 13 tries to one for the Redcoats.

The Wasps finish at 9-1-0 and 45 points while the Redcoats complete the season in second place at 7-3-0 and 37 points.

The league is to host its NRU Men’s Cup Saturday at London St. George.
