Guelph Redcoats sweep Fergus Highland in NRU men’s play

FERGUS – The Guelph Redcoats swept their Niagara Rugby Union men’s league’s games with Fergus Highland Saturday at Victoria Park in Fergus.

The Redcoats took the Men’s A1 league match 62-48 after winning the Men’s A2 game 57-10.

The Guelph side scored 10 tries in each match. Highland had eight tries in the A1 game and two in the A2 match.

The Redcoats are second in the A1 league at 4-1-0 while the Fergus squad is fifth at 2-4-0.

Guelph is also second in A2 with a 4-1-0 record while Highland has lost all six of its league outings.

Both the Redcoats and Highland are at home July 6 in their next outings in both the A1 and A2 leagues.

In A1, the Redcoats are to play league-leading Sarnia Saints (6-0-0) at Exhibition Park at 4 p.m. while Highland is to play the winless Norfolk Harvesters (0-6-0) at Victoria Park 3 p.m.

In A2, the Redcoats and Sarnia (5-1-0) are to play at Exhibition Park at 2:30 p.m. while Highland is to host the Grimsby Gentlemen (2-2-0) at Victoria Park at 1:30 p.m.
