Guelph Regals add victory in their home opener
GUELPH – A three-goal outburst in the second period gave the Guelph Regals a lead they wouldn’t relinquish on their way to an 11-9 victory over the Wallaceburg Red Devils in their Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League home opener Saturday afternoon at the Victoria Road Community Centre.
It was the second win in as many days for the Regals who doubled the St. Catharines Athletics 6-3 in their season opener Friday night at St. Catharines.

The teams battled to a 6-6 standoff in a wild first period Saturday. Wallaceburg scored the first goal of the second period before the Regals hit for their three in a row to shoot ahead 9-7 by the end of the period. The Regals and Red Devils traded goals in the third.
Dallon Evans and Owen Orpana hit for two goals apiece for the Regals while single goals were added by Jack MacAlpine, Marcus Keleher, Parker Lock, Riley McLellan, Hayden Sabourin, Marcus Visentin and Dylan Davey. Aiden Marroni, Marcus Keleher and MacAlpine each had two assists while Tyler Beecraft, Evans, Ethan Keleher, McLellan, Orpana and Evans had one each.
Riley Roe struck for a hat trick for Wallaceburg while Notah Hopkins netted a pair of goals. Landon Allaer, Austin Salisbury, Hunter Dalgety and Kanton Verstraeten also scored while Kaelen Smith had two assists and Ty Myers and Hopkins had one each.
Shots on goal were not recorded.
The Regals went 3-for-8 on their power play while Wallaceburg went 2-for-13.
Mateo Beaudin picked up the win in net for the Regals while Cecil Jacobs was tagged with the loss in the Wallaceburg net.
The Regals are to host the Hamilton Bengals Friday at 8 p.m. at the Victoria Road Community Centre.
