Guelph Regals drop Welland to finish regular season

WELLAND – The Guelph Regals wrapped up their Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League regular season with a 10-4 victory over the Welland Generals Sunday at the Welland arena.

After giving up the first goal, the Regals came back to lead 6-1 at the end of the first period and 8-3 after the second.

The Kelehers, Ethan and Marcus, scored three goals apiece while Joel Stevens scored twice and Dallon Evans and Jack MacAlpine scored once apiece. Dylan Goddard and Riley McLellan each had three assists while Parker Lock, Evans and MacAlpine had two apiece and Callyn Martin, Aiden Marroni, Ethan Keleher and Stevens each had one.

Avery Steinbach-Parker had two goals for Welland while Liam Haines and Riley Benoit also scored.

The Regals outshot the Generals 52-33 and went 3-for-5 on their power play while Welland was scoreless on its lone power play.

Mateo Beaudin had 29 saves to get the win in the Guelph net while Joe Joe Brant started in net for Welland, but was replaced by Logan Powless after Guelph’s sixth goals. Brant took the loss. He had 11 saves while Powless had 31.

The Regals finish fifth in the Western Conference at 13-7-0 while Welland finished 10th at 2-18-0.

Guelph is to battle the fourth-place St. Catharines Athletics (14-6-0) in the conference quarter-finals, the first round of the playoffs.
