Guelph Regals dropped by Six Nations

GUELPH – The Guelph Regals yielded 12 goals before they netted their first of their Ontario junior B lacrosse league game they dropped 21-3 to the Six Nations Rebels Sunday night at the Sleeman Centre.

Six Nations led 8-0 at the end of the first period and 15-2 after the second.

Carter TenEycke, Colin Matthews and Liam Holwell had a goal apiece for the Regals while Cohen Campbell and Sam Shaw each had two assists. Braydon Hickey and Matthews each had one assist

Gates Abrams, Kevin Owen Hill and Riley Montour each had hat tricks for Six Nations while Chayton King, Layne Smith and Riley Miller scored twice each and single goals were netted by Justin Martin, Kahn General, Oliver Bolsterli, Tanner Baldin, Tyler Foxe-MacKenzie and Wes Whitlow. Foxe-MacKenzie assisted on six of the goals while Wake:Riat Bowhunter and Smith each had four assists, Whitlow had three and Bo Peltier and Abrams had two apiece.

Brady Wilson took the loss in the Guelph net while Daniel Hill picked up the win for Six Nations.

The Rebels (18-1-0) will enter the playoffs as the top seed in the West Conference as they clinched first in the conference with the win. The Regals (3-14-0) will finish fourth in the Mid West Division. Top eight teams in the conference qualify for the playoffs. The Regals are tied for 11th with the Welland Generals (3-15-0).

Saturday, the Regals traded away three players including two of their top three scorers. Ben Heidecker (13 goals-16 assists in 14 games) and Quenton Begin (13-10 in 16 games) were dealt to the Halton Hills Bulldogs while A.J. Skirving (5-8 in 14 games) was sent to the Elora Mohawks.

The Regals, who’ve been eliminated from the playoff race, have three games left in their season. They’re to play the Owen Sound North Stars (9-8-0) at Owen Sound Thursday at 8 p.m., host Elora (12-6-0) Friday at 8 p.m. and host the Wallaceburg Red Devils (11-5-1) Sunday at 4 p.m.
