Guelph Regals end losing streak with win in overtime

OWEN SOUND – The Guelph Regals worked a little overtime Thursday night at the Bayshore Community Centre to get back to their winning ways in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play.

Two goals in overtime gave the Regals a 15-13 victory over the Owen Sound North Stars and also prevented them from losing a game in which they had had a six-goal lead 13 minutes into the second period.

The Regals led 2-1 at the end of the first period, those two goals being part of a seven-goal run by the Regals. However, Owen Sound cut the gap to 9-5 by the end of the second and then fought back to tie it in the third. The Regals needed a goal with 1:16 to go in regulation time to force the extra period.

Ethan Keleher on a power play and Parker Lock scored the goals in overtime for the Regals.

Those goals helped put an end to a four-game losing streak.

Joel Stevens finished with five goals for the Regals while Keleher and Riley McLellan scored twice apiece. Single goals were added by Dylan Goddard, Kyle Beecraft, Lock, Tyler Beecraft, Dallon Evans and Dylan Gillespie. Evans had six assists, Goddard four, Keleher, McLellan and Stevens two apiece and Kyle Beecraft, Dylan Davey, Lock, Tyler Beecraft, Aiden Marroni and Cam Wheeldon one each.

Carter Moran hit for five goals for Owen Sound while Luke Grimoldby had a hat trick, Dominic Millman had two goals and Tyson Downs, Cole Waddell and Elliot Thomson had one each.

Shots on goal were not recorded. The Regals went 2-for-5 on their power play while Owen Sound went 3-for-7.

Mateo Beaudin picked up the win in net for the locals while Brady Lisk took the loss for Owen Sound.

The Regals move into a tie for fourth in the Western Conference at 5-4-0 while Owen Sound is at 4-3-0.

The Regals are to play the Six Nations Rebels (4-4-0) Friday at 8 p.m. at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville.
