Guelph Regals hang tough, but fall to Six Nations
HAGERSVILLE – The Guelph Regals played it tough again, but goals in the first and last minutes of the third period secured an 11-7 victory for the Six Nations Rebels in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League playoff action Wednesday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
Six Nations takes a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series with the win.
The Rebels led 5-3 at the end of the first period, but the Regals got the gap down to a single goal (7-6) in the second, although Six Nations led 9-7 at the end of the period.
Liam Holwell hit for a hat trick for the Regals while Michael Blaymires scored twice and Marcus Keleher and Julian Siragusa added single goals. Ethan Harkins assisted on four of the goals while Keleher and Matthew Vilas each had three assists and Mason Walton and Jack Burke each had one.
Weylon Abrams, Daylen Hill and Tayton Skye each scored three times for Six Nations while Chayton King and Marshall Powless tallied once each. King, Austin Giles and Wes Whitlow each gathered two assists while Abrams, Daylen Hill, Powless, Dawit Martin, Mason Hill, Daris Anderson, Gutch Salinas and Tycie Cowan each had one assist.
Brady Wilson was tagged with the loss in the Guelph net despite making 45 saves.
Winning goalkeeper Briley Miller of Six Nations had 26 saves.
The Regals were 3-for-7 on their power play while Six Nations was 2-for-6.
Game 4 of the Western Conference quarter-final is to be played Saturday at the Victoria Road arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
