The Regals had been defeated 20-8 by Six Nations Saturday at the Victoria Road arena while Welland had lost 22-6 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Hagersville Friday night.

The locals had apparently learned their lesson after being stymied by a myriad of penalties in the loss to Six Nations as the Rebels had gone 10-for-11 on their power play Saturday. A day later, the Regals held Welland scoreless on three power plays and the Guelph side went 7-for-11 with a manpower advantage.

The Regals led 6-1 after the first period and 11-3 after the second. They scored six consecutive goals in the first period, five in a row in the second and also went on a four-goal run in the third.

The six first-period goals by the Regals came in a span of 7:36.

Owen Orpana had four goals and three assists to lead the Regals while Dylan Goddard, Parker Lock, Ethan Keleher and Marcus Keleher each added two goals. Single goals were netted by Dylan Davey, Eric Snyder and Dallon Evans while Marcus Keleher had four assists. Getting two assists apiece were Davey and Evans while single assists were awarded to Goddard, Lock, Snyder and Trent Gilbert.

Riley Benoit, Dawson Battersby, Rolando Henderson and Avery Steinbach-Parker had a goal apiece for Welland while Battersby and Henderson each had an assist.

The Regals outshot the Generals 69-43.

Anthony Fonte picked up the win in net for the locals with 37 saves before being replaced by Ty Fox-Trudel with 10:26 to go in the game. Fox-Trudel allowed one goal on the three shots he faced.

Darian Doolittle took the loss for Welland after yielding nine goals on 31 shots in the first 35:10 of the game. Logan Powless took over and stopped 32 of 38 shots the rest of the game.

The Regals (1-1-0) are to play the Hamilton Bengals (1-0-0) Thursday at 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s Rosedale Arena before hosting the Windsor Clippers in Windsor’s season opener Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Victoria Road arena.
