Guelph Regals start in a hurry in doubling up London

LONDON – The Guelph Regals scored the first three goals of the game as they headed to a 14-7 victory over the London Blue Devils in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Thursday night at London’s Nichols Recreation Centre.

Those three goals helped the Regals to a 4-2 lead at the end of the first period that they extended to a 9-5 advantage in the second.

Included in Guelph’s scoring was a stretch of five consecutive goals from 18:49 of the first period to 5:42 of the second.

Owen Orpana collected four goals and six assists while Marcus Keleher had three goals and six assists. Logan Reyes scored twice while single goals were netted by Dylan Davey, Charlie Boon, Trent Gilbert, Zachary Wright and Ethan Keleher. Wright had four assists while Boon had three and Davey and Parker Lock had two apiece. Mason Walton, Sam MacDonald, Gilbert and Cam Wheeldon each had one.

Tyler Fletcher had a hat trick for London while Nate Doxtator scored twice and Declan McEvoy and Tyson Currah collected single goals. Brendan Campbell gathered four assists while Currah had three, Noah Candy had two and Nolan Candy, Ty Clarke, Doxtator, Connor Zavitz and goalkeeper Harrison Kerr each had one.

The Regals outshot London 70-40 and went 3-for-12 on their power play while the Blue Devils went 2-for-7.

Anthony Fonte had 33 saves for the win in net for the Regals while Kerr had 56 saves for London.

The Regals are third in the Western Conference at 8-3-0. They trail the Six Nations Rebels (12-0-0) and Elora Mohawks (10-1-0) and lead the St. Catharines Athletics (7-2-0), Windsor Clippers (7-3-0), Hamilton Bengals (6-5-0), Owen Sound North Stars (5-5-0), Cambridge Highlanders (5-6-0), Wallaceburg Red Devils (2-7-0), London (1-10-0), Welland Generals (0-10-0) and Point Edward Pacers (0-11-0).

The Regals are to host Welland Friday at 8 p.m. at the Victoria Road Arena in their first of three consecutive home games. They’re also to host Cambridge Sunday at 3 p.m. and Elora Wednesday at 8 p.m.
