Guelph Regals topple Windsor for third straight win

GUELPH – The Guelph Regals made it three consecutive wins in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League play Sunday at the Victoria Road arena when they downed the Windsor Clippers 7-4 in Windsor’s season-opening game.

Five goals in the second period including three in a span of 1:44 powered the Regals to the victory.

The teams scored once apiece in the first period and Guelph led 6-2 at the end of the second.

Owen Orpana and Marcus Keleher scored twice apiece for the Regals while single goals were added by Dylan Davey, Cam Wheeldon and Ethan Keleher. Orpana had three assists while Marcus Keleher had two and Dylan Goddard, Mason Walton, Sam MacDonald, Davey, Ethan Keleher and Reid MacDonald each had one.

Windsor received single goals from Malikye Good, Quinn Brennan, Nathan DeThomasis and Connor McManus. Good collected two assists while single assists went to Nate Dowling, Jack Bulmer, Vance Dalpe and McManus.

The teams each had 52 shots and a power-play goal. The Clippers had six manpower-advantage situations in the game while the Regals had seven.

Dante Mancini had 48 saves in the Guelph net while Windsor’s Griffin Salaris had 45.

The win leaves the Regals at 3-1-0 on the season.

The Regals have a trio of road games this week as they’re to tangle with the Elora Mohawks (2-1-0) Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex in Fergus, take on the Point Edward Pacers (0-3-0) at Point Edward Saturday at 4 p.m. and clash with the Wallaceburg Red Devils (1-1-0) Sunday at 4 p.m. at Wallaceburg.
