Guelph Royals dropped by London Majors

The Guelph Royals were limited to three hits as they were downed 8-0 by the London Majors in Intercounty Baseball League play Friday at London’s Labatt Park.

London collected the eventual game-winning run in the third inning and the Majors also scored two runs in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Josh Garton, Jaozef Del Rosario and Ryosuke Ohashi each hit a single for Guelph.

London had nine hits in the game as Kaiden Cardoso had a solo homer and two singles while Ty Mosher and Gibson Krzeminski each hit a double. Collecting one single each were Starling Joseph, Victor Plaz, Cleveland Borwnlee and Andrew Lawrence.

Rhys Montgomery started on the mound for the Royals while N Mercado and Ben Reid saw time in relief. Montgomery gave up three earned runs off five hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings while Mercado surrendered five runs (four earned) off four hits and a walk in 2 2/3 innings. Reid yielded a walk in his inning of work. Mercado had three strikeouts and Reid had one.

The Royals had two hits off starter Victor Payano, none off Skylar Janisse and one off Daniel Gore. Payano had seven strikeouts and Janisse had one and no Guelph batter was walked. Payano pitched seven innings and Janisse and Gore pitched one apiece.

The Royals stranded their three runners while London left eight aboard. Guelph had two stolen bases while London had four.
