Guelph Royals to begin IBL campaign at Barrie May 9

GUELPH – The Guelph Royals are to start their 2020 Intercounty Baseball League season against the defending league champion Barrie Baycats.

The Royals and Baycats are scheduled to play May 9 at 2 p.m. at Barrie’s Coates Stadium.

The IBL released its schedule for its 101st season this week.

First scheduled home game for the Royals is May 16 at 1 p.m. against the Brantford Red Sox at Hastings Stadium.

The league’s regular season remains at 36 games per team this season. Of Guelph’s 18 home games, 12 are to be held on Saturdays and they’re to be 1 p.m. game times until June 27 when they switch to 7:30 p.m. game times.

Five of the Royals’ home games are to be played on Tuesdays with all starting at 7:30 p.m.

The other game is to be played on a Wednesday at 1 p.m. as the Royals are to host the Welland Jackfish on Canada Day.

The Royals have five sets of back-to-back games scheduled against the same opponent.

They’re to play the Hamilton Cardinals at Hamilton’s Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium May 24 and at Hastings Stadium May 26, Welland at home June 2 and at Welland Stadium June 4, London Majors at London’s Labatt Memorial Park June 12 and at Hastings Stadium the following day, the Toronto Maple Leafs at Hastings Stadium July 18 and at Toronto’s Dominico Field at Christie Pits July 19 and finish their regular season with games against the Kitchener Panthers at Kitchener’s Jack Couch Park July 26 and at Hastings Stadium Aug. 1.

Guelph’s schedule has nine games scheduled in May, 12 in June, 14 in July and one in August.

Longest home stand is three games (June 27 to July 4) and most consecutive road games is also three (June 21 to 26). They’re also to play three of their first four games on the road.

The Royals also have a trio of three-in-threes.
