Guelph Storm blanked in playoff opener
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – The Guelph Storm were held scoreless as the Soo Greyhounds recorded a 3-0 victory in the opening game of their best-of-seven OHL Western Conference quarter-final playoff series Thursday at the GFL Memorial Gardens.
Second game of the series is also to be played in Sault Ste. Marie Saturday.

All the scoring in the game was limited to a segment of just over 11 and a half minutes in the second period. The final two goals for the hosts were scored 39 seconds apart.
Tye Kartye scored the eventual game-winning goal at 2:15 of the second period and added a second goal 11:04 later before Ryan O’Rourke quickly completed the scoring.
Jack Thompson assisted on two of the goals while Cole MacKay, O’Rourke and Rory Kerins each had one assist.
The Greyhounds outshot the Storm 24-23 and neither team managed a power-play goal. The Storm had three manpower advantage situations, one more than their hosts.
Tucker Tynan picked up the shutout win in net for Soo while Owen Bennett had 21 saves for the locals.
Saturday’s game is to start at 7:07 p.m.
The series will shift to Guelph for games at the Sleeman Centre Tuesday and Thursday. Both carry 7 p.m. game times.
