Guelph Storm doubles Hamilton at home in preseason
GUELPH – The Guelph Storm scored late in each of the three periods Friday night at the Sleeman Centre to double the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-2 in their final home game of the Ontario Hockey League’s preseason.
Pavel Gogolev’s goal with two and a half minutes to go in the first period gave the Storm a 2-1 lead. Jacob Maillet had scored four minutes earlier.
Ty Collins connected for the eventual game-winner with 1:34 to go in the second while Jacob Roach added a short-handed, empty-net insurance goal with 29 seconds to go in the third.
Colin Campbell assisted on two of the goals while Ben McFarlane, Andrei Bakanov, Keegan Stevenson and Alexandre Hogue each had one assist.
Liam Van Loon and Cameron Supryka scored short-handed goals for Hamilton while Tag Bertuzzi and Supryka each had an assist.
The Storm outshot Hamilton 32-31 despite being outshot 15-6 in the third period. The hosts also went 1-for-4 on their power play and held Hamilton scoreless on four power plays.
Nico Daws turned aside 29 shots in the Guelph net while Roy Zachary made 28 saves for Hamilton.
The win evens the Storm’s preseason record at 2-2-0-0 while Hamilton falls to 1-2-0-0.
The Storm are to complete its preseason schedule Saturday when the two teams meet again at Hamilton’s Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena. Game time is 7 p.m.
The Storm are to open their regular season next Friday when they’re to host the Ottawa 67’s at the Sleeman Centre starting at 7:30 p.m.
