Guelph Storm falls to Owen Sound in shootout

GUELPH – Sam Sedley’s goal in a shootout lifted the Owen Sound Attack to a 3-2 victory over the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.

That goal left the Storm as shootout losers of a game that they led with one minute to go in regulation time.

After a scoreless first period, the Attack scored the lone goal of the second. The Storm tied it in the opening minute of the third and went ahead just after the period’s eight-minute mark.

Owen Sound tied it and forced overtime and eventually the shootout when Servac Petrovsky scored with 57 seconds to go in the third.

Three players picked up points in the game for the Storm as both goals were power-play markers. Sasha Pastujov and Danny Zhilkin each had a goal and an assist while Daniil Chayka assisted on both goals.

William Portokalis scored the other goal for Owen Sound while assists were awarded to Cedrick Guindon, Madden Steen, Ethan Burroughs and Deni Goure.

The Storm outshot the Attack 34-25 thanks to a 12-5 advantage in the first period.

Jacob Oster was tagged with the shootout loss in the Storm net. He had 23 saves while winning netminder Nick Chenard had 32.

The Storm (9-6-1-1) are tied for second in the Western Conference with the Soo Greyhounds (10-7-0-0) while London Knights lead at 11-3-1-0. Owen Sound is fifth at 7-6-1-1.

The Storm are to host the Sarnia Sting (seventh at 6-6-2-0) Saturday at the Sleeman Centre. Game time is 4 p.m.
