
Guelph Storm get another shootout victory
SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – It’s a week for winning in shootouts for the Guelph Storm as they scored their second consecutive shootout victory in OHL play Friday night at Sault Ste. Marie’s GFL Memorial Gardens.
The Storm scored twice in a shootout to edge the Soo Greyhounds 3-2. They had beaten the Sarnia Sting 6-5 in a shootout Wednesday at Sarnia.

Friday, Sasha Pastujov and Valentin Zhugin scored for the Storm in the shootout while the Greyhounds failed to score on Guelph goalie Jacob Oster on their two shots.
The teams had battled to a 2-2 draw through regulation time and a five-minute overtime period.
After a scoreless first period, the Greyhounds led 2-1 at the end of the second on a pair of goals just under two minutes apart in the final three minutes of the period.
Jake Karabela’s power-play goal early in the third knotted the score and forced the overtime.
Zackary Sandhu’s first of the season early in the second period opened the scoring for the Storm.
Danny Zhilkin, Pastujov and Ben McFarlane had assists for the Storm.
Justin Cloutier and Bryce McConnell-Barker had the goals for Soo while assists went to Marco Mignosa and Kirill Kudryavtsev.
The Greyhounds outshot the Storm 16-5 in the first period on their way to a 37-26 advantage. Both teams went 1-for-5 on their power plays.
Oster finished with 35 saves for the Storm while Samuel Ivanov had 24 saves for the Greyhounds.
The result leaves the Storm at 4-9-2-0. They’re tied with the Kitchener Rangers (5-7-0-0) for ninth in the Western Conference, but the Rangers have three games in hand. The Storm’s also one point behind the London Knights (5-6-1-0), three behind the Greyhounds (4-5-3-2) and four behind the Flint Firebirds (7-7-0-0).
The Storm are to play the Firebirds at Flint’s Dort Financial Center Saturday at 7 p.m. in their third of five consecutive road games. They’re also to play the Battalion at North Bay Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. and the Wolves at Sudbury Nov. 11 at 7:05 p.m.
