
Guelph Storm nip London Knights in overtime
GUELPH – Jake Karabela’s goal 1:47 into overtime gave the Guelph Storm their fourth consecutive victory as they edged the London Knights 4-3 in OHL play Sunday at the Sleeman Centre.
Cooper Walker’s goal for the Storm with 68 seconds to go in the third period forced the overtime.

The Storm led 1-0 at the end of the first period and 2-1 after the second, but London shot ahead with a pair of goals 46 seconds apart with less than nine minutes to go in regulation time.
Braeden Bowman and Chandler Romo scored the other goals for Guelph. Michael Buchinger and Max Namestnikov each had two assists while Matthew Poitras, Valentin Zhugin, Charlie Paquette and Karabela had one assist apiece.
Easton Cowan, Logan Mailloux and George Diaco connected for single goals for London. Assists went to Ryan Winterton, Cowan, Sam Dickinson and Jacob Julien.
The Knights outshot the Storm 24-19 in the defensive match. Neither team hit double digits in shots in any period.
Patrick Leaver had 21 saves for the Storm and Brett Brochu had 15 for London.
Both teams went scoreless on their power plays, three for the Storm and two for the Knights.
The game was also a close one in the faceoff circle with each team winning 30 faceoffs.
The Storm (28-24-4-1) are tied for fifth in the Western Conference with the Owen Sound Attack (28-22-4-1). They’re two points behind the Saginaw Spirit (30-24-2-1) and two ahead of the Flint Firebirds (27-26-4-1). Owen Sound has two games in hand on the Storm.
London leads the conference at 40-15-2-0, one point ahead of the Windsor Spitfires (38-14-4-1) and the Knights and Spitfires are the lone teams in the division to have already clinched a playoff berth.
Ottawa 67’s (41-11-3-2), North Bay Battalion (37-17-2-1) and Barrie Colts (34-15-6-2) have clinched playoff berths in the Eastern Conference.
The Storm have 11 games remaining on their regular-season schedule and will secure a playoff berth by winning five of those games.
Next up for the Storm is an 11 a.m. game Wednesday against the Mississauga Steelheads (fifth in Eastern Conference at 28-23-5-0) at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre.
