
Guelph Storm rally to top Saginaw Spirit
GUELPH – The Guelph Storm rallied with five unanswered goals, three in the third period, to hand the Saginaw Spirit a 5-3 setback in Ontario Hockey League play Friday night at the Sleeman Centre.
The comeback allowed the Storm to overcome a slow start as they’d fallen behind 3-0 in the first period, all three Saginaw goals coming in a span of two minutes and 47 seconds midway through the period.

The Storm had been outshot 10-6 in the opening period, but outshot Saginaw 32-14 the rest of the way for a 38-24 advantage in the game. The locals were scoreless on five power plays while Saginaw went 1-for-4 on its power play, their power-play goal being the first goal of the game.
Matthew Papais had a pair of goals for the Storm while Valentin Zhugin, Cam Allen and Ben McFarlane added single goals. Assists went to Braeden Bowman, Jake Karabela, Cooper Walker and Michael Buchinger.
Matyas Sapovaliv, P.J. Forgione and Pavel Mintyukov had the goals for Saginaw while Dalton Duhart, Evan Klein, Ian Phillips, Josh Bloom and Sapovaliv each had an assist.
Jacob Oster started in net for the Storm, but was relieved by Owen Bennett at 11:37 of the first period after Saginaw’s second goal. Oster had six save and Bennett had 15.
Tristan Lennox played the entire game for Saginaw and had 33 saves.
The Storm are to play the London Knights at London’s Budweiser Gardens Saturday at 4 p.m.
