Guelph United comes back to drop league leaders

TORONTO – Guelph United surrendered an early goal to the North Toronto Nitros before rallying for a 4-1 victory in League1 Ontario Men’s Premier soccer play Saturday night at Downsview Park.

Ali El Zeir scored for North Toronto in the 29th minute.

That stood as the game’s only goal until Tomas Skublak connected for United in the 44th minute to leave the game tied 1-1 at halftime.

Marcel Zajac put the locals ahead for good two minutes into the second half while Cole Fernandez, a second-half replacement, scored in the 68th minute and Skublak netted his second of the game later in the half.

Svyatoslav Artemenko picked up the win in net.

United moves to sixth in the league standings at 4-2-1 while the Nitros (5-2-1), Alliance United FC (5-1-1) of Scarborough and Blue Devils FC (4-0-4) of Oakville are tied for the lead with 16 points apiece.

United is to host Unionville Milliken SC (3-3-2) at Alumni Stadium Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
