Hagersville’s two-goal periods clip Hespeler Shamrocks

HAGERSVILLE – The Hespeler Shamrocks suffered their seventh loss in eight games as they were handed a 4-1 setback by the Hagersville Hawks in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Tuesday night at the Hagersville arena.

Hagersville scored twice in the first period and twice in the third for the win.

Austin Slaney had an unassisted goal in the second period for Hespeler.

Ralph Taggart, Nick Visser, Peter Cappucci and Matt Weston had a goal apiece for Hagersville while single assists were awarded to Keegan Cumming, Wesley Fritz, Weston, Jacob Lauretani, Hayden Smith, Visser and Tycie Cowan.

Hagersville outshot the Shamrocks 31-14 and the Hawks were scoreless on three power plays and the Shamrocks didn’t score on their lone power play.

Connor Pickard had 27 saves, but was tagged with the loss for Hespeler. Justin Easter had the win for Hagersville with 13 saves.

The win moves Hagersville to third in the Bloomfield Division at 10-7-1-2 while Hespeler is eighth at 4-16-0-1.

The two teams are to meet again Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
