
Halfway through regular season, Mohawks still unbeaten
WALLACEBURG – The Elora Mohawks remained undefeated as they reached the midway point of their Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League season Thursday as they downed the Wallaceburg Red Devils 11-5 at the Wallaceburg Memorial Arena.
The Mohawks have won all 10 games they’ve played this season.

Thursday, a five-goal outburst in the second period broke a tie and put Elora ahead for good.
The Mohawks had scored the first three goals of the game in the game’s first five and a half minutes, but the hosts battled back to tie it a minute and a half into the second period. Elora, though, led 8-4 at the end of the second.
Nick Aitchison led the Mohawks with four goals while Keegan Detweiler scored twice and Ethen Wellings (recently acquired in a trade with Welland), Tobias Wilson, Jonah White, Mark McIntosh and Brett Harrison scored once each. Sam Dramnitzke had three assists while Keegan Detweiler had two and Jayden Bushey, Wellings, Aitchison, McIntosh, Kyle Detweiler, Matt Allen and goalkeeper Nathan Whittom each had one.
Wallaceburg received two goals from Kaelen Smith and one each from Kelgen Franquist, Mason Myers-Whiteye and Shawn Glover-Nolan.
The Mohawks outshot Wallaceburg 52-31 and went 3-for-7 on their power play while the Red Devils went 1-for-5.
Whittom had 26 saves for the win in the Elora net while Wallaceburg’s Cecil Jacobs had 41 saves.
The Mohawks have four of the league’s top 14 scorers including the top two. Harrison leads with 29 goals and 33 assists in 10 games while Dramnitzke has 18 goals and 38 assists in 10 games to stand one-two. Aitchison is in a group of five tied for ninth as he has 20 goals and 12 assists in seven games and Allen is 14th with 13 goals and 18 assists in 10 games.
Whittom leads the league’s goaltenders with a 3.56 goals-against average, .882 save percentage and 6-0-0 record in seven appearances. He’s the only goalkeeper with a GAA under 5.00 and his save percentage is also a league best. Teammate Sam Hadley is third with a 5.23 GAA. He also has a save percentage of .811 and a 4-0-0 record in five appearances.
The Mohawks are to host the Windsor Clippers (5-1-0) Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre.
