Hamilton rallies to drop Shamrocks
HAMILTON – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded six unanswered goals as they fell 7-2 to the Hamilton Huskies Junior Blues in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Thursday night at the Chedoke arena.
The Shamrocks led 2-1 six minutes into the second period before Hamilton started its comeback.
The teams had scored once each in the first period and Hespeler grabbed the lead 83 seconds into the second period. However, the hosts were ahead 4-2 by the end of the period.
Ryan Frost and Austin Reilly had a goal apiece for the Shamrocks while assists were awarded to Brett Hartin, Matthew Tonner and Kyle Wagner.
Brady Bannon connected for a pair of goals for Hamilton while single goals were netted by Aidan Robitaille, Chris Cudek, Stephen Bell, Connor Noonan and Carter Franks. Connor Pilon assisted on three of the goals and Patrick Vulgan and Cudek each had two assists. Getting one assist each were Bell, Matt Wright, Robitaille, Will Thomas, Brandon Waterhouse, Franks and Jamieson Buck.
The Junior Blues outshot the Shamrocks 54-32 including a 21-6 advantage in the third period. Both teams were 0-for-5 on their power plays.
Connor Ogg had 30 saves for the win in the Hamilton net while Hespeler’s Connor Pickard made 47 saves.
Hamilton is sixth in the eight-team Bloomfield Division at 7-10-1-0 while the Shamrocks (4-14-0-1) are tied for seventh with the Dunnville Mudcats (3-10-1-2).
The Shamrocks and Mudcats are to battle Saturday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
