Hartwick’s late goal lifts 81’s to victory

PALMERSTON – Collin Hartwick’s goal with 2:15 to go in the third period lifted the Mapleton-Minto 81’s to a 3-2 victory over the Tillsonburg Thunder in Western Ontario Athletic Association senior AA men’s hockey play Saturday at the Palmerston arena.

After a scoreless first period, M-M led 2-1 at the end of the second. However, Tillsonburg tied it with just over 12 minutes to go in the period.

Hartwick’s winning goal was his second of the game while Adam Kawalec scored the other goal with four seconds to go in the second period.

Kyle Ellis had two assists and the Pleons — Jake and Mike – had one apiece.

Ben Nelson was in net the 81’s net for the win.

Mike Findlay and Trevor Rosborough scored for Tillsonburg.

The win lifts M-M to sixth in the 14-team league at 11-7-2-1 while Tillsonburg falls to 10th at 10-11-0-0.

M-M is to complete its regular season at home Sunday with a 2 p.m. game against the Elora Rocks (9-10-1-0).
